Tenang Support
If you are in crisis right now
Tenang is a self-help journal, not an emergency service, and no one monitors what you write. If you are thinking about harming yourself, please contact emergency services or a crisis line immediately.
- Indonesia (emergency): 112
- Indonesia (Kemenkes SEJIWA): 119 ext. 8
- Outside Indonesia: your local emergency number, or findahelpline.com
The SOS screen inside the app keeps these numbers one tap away, offline.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account to use Tenang?
No. Tenang is designed to work completely offline with no account. Mood check-ins, journalling, self-checks, breathing and grounding tools, reminders, and the garden all work without signing in. An account is optional and only adds cloud backup, sync across devices, and the paid AI features.
Where is my data stored?
On your device, by default. If you never sign in, nothing you write leaves your phone, which also means uninstalling the app deletes everything permanently. If you do sign in, an encrypted-in-transit copy is stored so you can restore it or sync to another device. See the Privacy Policy for the full detail.
What does the PIN do, and what happens if I forget it?
A PIN locks the app and encrypts your data both on the device and in cloud backup, using a key derived from the PIN itself. That key never leaves your device, so nobody else, including us, can read your backup.
The trade-off is real: if you forget your PIN, your data cannot be recovered. There is no reset link and no back door. If that risk concerns you, use Export in Settings to keep a copy somewhere safe before setting one.
Why can't the AI coach see my data when I have a PIN set?
Because a PIN encrypts your backup end-to-end, and the AI feature runs on a server that would need to read it. That is the intended trade-off: maximum privacy, or AI coaching, not both at once. You can remove the PIN in Settings if you would rather have the AI features.
Does the AI read my journal entries?
No. The AI receives a statistical summary only: mood values and dates, streak, self-check scores, and counts of journal entries and meditations. The text you write is counted, never sent.
Are the self-checks a diagnosis?
No. PHQ-9 and GAD-7 are widely used screening questionnaires that indicate how you may have been feeling recently. They are not a diagnosis and cannot replace an assessment by a qualified professional. If your scores concern you, please take them to a doctor or psychologist rather than acting on them alone.
My reminders are not appearing.
Work through these in order:
- Check notification permission is granted for Tenang in your system settings.
- Confirm the reminder is toggled on in Settings, and that its time has not already passed today.
- On Android, disable battery optimisation for Tenang. Aggressive power saving cancels scheduled alarms.
- Reminders are scheduled on the device, so they will not fire on the web version.
How do I move my data to a new phone?
Sign in on both devices with the same account and your data syncs automatically. With no account, use Export in Settings on the old device and import the file on the new one.
How do I delete everything?
Settings offers a full wipe. It clears all local data and deletes your cloud backup at the same time. This cannot be undone. To also remove your account record, use Delete Account in Settings — it deletes your account and its cloud data, and cannot be undone either. If you cannot open the app, email us and we will erase it.
What do I get with Pro, and how does the trial work?
The free version covers everything essential: unlimited mood check-ins, journalling, self-checks, the breathing and grounding tools, reminders, and the garden. Pro adds AI coaching nudges, AI reflection reports, guided CBT tools, and deeper insights. Every account gets a free 14-day trial with no payment details required, once per account.
How do I cancel?
Monthly and weekly plans renew automatically until you cancel. On iPhone, open the Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions, then Tenang. On Android, open the Play Store app, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions, then Tenang. Your Pro access continues until the end of the period you already paid for. The 3-month plan is a one-time purchase: it simply ends, with nothing to cancel.
How do refunds work?
Payments go through the App Store or Google Play — we never see your card, so a refund starts with the store, not with us:
- iPhone: request it at reportaproblem.apple.com, signed in with the Apple account you paid with. Only Apple can issue App Store refunds; if your request stalls, email us and we will help make the case.
- Android: request one in the Play Store app under Payments & subscriptions, or email us directly — for genuine cases we can issue a Play refund ourselves.
If a paid feature is broken and we cannot fix it, email us within 14 days of purchase (see the Terms of Service §6) and we will refund the unused portion. Changed your mind about Pro? The store's own refund window decides; either way, cancelling takes seconds (see above) and you keep Pro until the end of the period you already paid for. The 14-day trial needs no card, so there is never anything to refund on it.
Is Tenang available in English?
Yes. Tenang ships in Bahasa Indonesia and English, follows your device language by default, and can be switched manually in Settings.
Still stuck? Email us and a person will reply.
We aim to reply within 2 business days. Please include your device model and OS version.
Never include your PIN, password, or journal contents in an email.
